smsAmerican research company CTIA conducted a study where the purpose was to determine how much Americans are dependent on short text messages (SMS). It turned out that over the past six months the Americans sent 740 billion text messages. And this means that in the United States 4.1 billion SMS-messages are sent in one day. In other words every man, woman, old man and child send up to 11.7 text messages per day.

The average SMS-message contains about 80 characters and it turns out that every day Americans written about 656,000 SMS-books. Storage of the New York Public Library has about 20.4 million books which means that the SMS-books of a similar storage can be filled in one month. But will it be interesting to anyone to read these books? This is another question.

CTIA also obtained some interesting results. For example in June 2009 the average American’s check for the use of cellular communications was $ 49.57, with an average duration of a voice call – just 2.03 minutes, which is compared with the results of past years is unusually low. In the United States there are approximately 276,610,580 cellular subscribers. Comparing with last year we see the increase by 14 million of subscribers.
